Thank you to Jill Fordham (usually our Stained Glass and Glass Fusing tutor!) for demonstrating how to make decorations with tomato puree tubes and a biro!

What you will need:

  • Washed tomato puree tubes (or similar thick foil packaging) cut and flattened into sheets
  • A non-working biro
  • A working biro or felt tip
  • A teaspoon
  • A spongy surface such as a mouse pad or padded envelope
  • Scissors

Step by Step

  • With the sponge as your work surface and taking care with sharp edges, use the back of a spoon to flatten the foil.
  • On the branded side of the foil (the side you don’t want to see), use a felt tip pen to draw your design (rubs off easily in case of mistakes)
  • When you are happy with the design, use a biro to gently score the design into the foil
  • Flip it over to see the results!
  • Cut around the shape with scissors or a craft knife

  • Experiment with embossing with different implements to achieve different textures
  • If you score the front side of the foil you can create 3D effects
  • Create your piece in parts then stick them together with super glue
