The Bespoke Dress
Pattern making with Jacqueline Bounsall
Thursdays | 18.30-21.30 | £200 | 10 weeks | starts 25th April
This course will provide you with the foundation skills to create a bespoke dress pattern for woven fabrics. Using your own measurements you will learn how to draft a block and make a pattern and calico toile for use for fitting and pattern adjustments. Everyone will make a pattern for the same dress style initially during the first 10 weeks but you will also be taught how to use your block to create different styles for future projects over the 10 weeks. Pattern making experience is not required but you should have the ability to use a sewing machine and some knowledge of dressmaking. The course involves problem solving and basic maths but don’t let that put you off, we’ll let you use a calculator!
It is strongly recommended that beginners attend the first session.
Having completed the Bespoke Dress course, returning learners are invited to work on new projects in agreement with the tutor. This may include designing a dress or leaning advanced techniques such as alternative methods of fastening, linings, pockets, collars or just more complex styles. There will also be the opportunity to draft blocks for different garments such as trousers or jackets.
This course consists of 10 Thursday classes. We take a break over half term so no class on Thursday 30th May.
